We drove to Pingvellir National Park and spent the morning hiking around. This park has great historical significance to Icelanders. It is the site of the the first government which was a representative democracy created in 900 AD. It’s also the site where Iceland became a republic in 1944. We saw the “Law Rock” where these things occurred. The park is also very interesting from a geological perspective because the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates come together there. We walked through the rift between the plates. After Pingvellir we went to Geysir which was the mother of all geysirs. We took a walk up to viewpoint and Kevin captured a good video of an eruption. Then we went to see Gullfoss, a huge waterfall. Finally after all that hiking we took a good soak at the Secret Lagoon thermal pool. That was fantastic!
